Jamal Musiala reveals Barcelona were his childhood team, with Lionel Messi as his hero.
Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he has been a fan of Barcelona since he was a child, having followed the Catalan giants since he was a child and even owning a shirt of the Catalan giants’ legendary striker Lionel Messi, Ufabet reported on Wednesday.
Midfielder Musiala, for his part, has of course secured for himself a name as one of the game’s standout young talents over the last couple of years.
Owing to a combination of remarkable dribbling abilities, an eye for goal and supreme athleticism, the German international – still just 21 – has long been considered one of the first names on the team sheet at the Allianz Arena.
As alluded to above, though, Musiala, it has today been revealed, did not grow up a Bayern Munich supporter.
Instead, the one-time Chelsea talent spent his formative years fawning over the talents of the likes of Xavi and Lionel Messi, at Barcelona.
Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, as cited by Goal, Musiala explained:
‘Barcelona is my reference point, my favourite team. I have Messi’s shirt. The midfield with Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets fascinates me. I watch their games over and over again. On the back of my shirt when I was a kid, Messi was always there.’
‘I have another Neymar shirt, but Messi is my hero, my favourite player,’ Musiala said.
Musiala is currently under Promotion ufabet contract until 2026 and is in talks over a new deal with Bayern Munich. With the 21-year-old expected to become one of the club’s highest-paid players.
